Most frequently trail and long distance runners present pre or post-event with lower limb muscle group fatigue, often accompanied by lumbar discomfort and glute tension.
Canberra's most popular sport, the elite athlete of the office suffers from the most workplace injuries, presenting daily with headaches, neck and back pain. Sedentary work is the most debilitating of the vigorous sports, leaving behind a trail of destruction, from RSI to Migraines.
Usually our less nimble and flexible populis, between the thoracic rotation, endless bending down and kilometers walked, the golfing population present with a whole range of issues, from wrist and elbow to shoulder, back and lower limb tendinopathy.
From Dragon Boaters to Kayakers and Rowers, these athletes usually present with full upper body posterior chain tension and quad fatigue particularly for Rowers.
From social tennis players to squash and our pickleball elite, the change of direction and overhead mobility required makes for some tailored remedial work of the whole body not too dissimilar to our Golfers.
One of Canberra's favourite pasttimes is getting out on two wheels. Whether it be Trail and Mountain biking, Road Cycling, BMX or a leisurely ride, I regularly see people of all abilities and levels, experiencing various tension as a result. Apart from lower limbs, lumbar and upper thoracic are a common pain presentation due to prolonged rounded posture.
One of the best Sports for full body mobility in a zero impact environment, swimmers usually present as needing some shoulder attention and a nice deep tissue flush. Overhead mobility, thoracic rotation and diaphragm are usually operating at an optimal level.
Our lifting population experience the least muscle tension and pain although they are good for the odd shoulder impingement, hip imbalance and general fatigue. Whether it be general DOMS or a specific issue, our gym goers often enjoy a deep tissue treatment and some IASTM. (See in menu)
